As a Houston-based firm, we at Anna Pi, CPA took the brunt of Hurricane Beryl as much as anyone else in the Space City. Turns out even an all-virtual firm doesn't run very well when there's no electricity.
Our beautiful city has thankfully made a comeback in the past month, and businesses are back to running as usual (except for the roofers, who are working overtime). Still, since hurricanes and Houston are never apart for very long, it's good to know where to turn to next time the weather turns foul.
As FEMA reminded us in a recent press release, the federal government provides assistance to individuals and families living in disaster-affected counties, often in the form of household essentials like food, water, baby formula, and medicine. To find out what's available in your situation, visit disasterassistance.gov or call the FEMA Helpline at 1-(800)-621-3362.
If you live in Texas, consider completing the Texas Damage Survey. This helps FEMA know how much monetary assistance to supply to the state of Texas.
Finally, as was the case for Beryl, the Small Business Administration will provide Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet your working capital needs. Disaster loans are also available to homeowners and renters to help repair or replace broken real estate or personal property (like vehicles). To get details on your situation, visit sba.gov or call 1-(800)-659-2955.
